Many cosmetics are colored with FD&C colors or Lake colors (Lake colors are non FDA inspected). These cosmetic pigments are made from coal tar, a by-product of steel production. Steel production generates millions of pounds of coal tar residues, a major pollutant. Coal tars contain benzene and phenols – known carcinogens. Coal tar use in cosmetics has been "grandfathered" in, due to irregularities in the FDA regulations. Many companies label their FD&C colored children's products as "Non-Toxic". Some consider this disingenuous.
Vapour does not use potentially hazardous, lab-created FD&C or Lake colorants. Vapour Beauty’s color comes from natural ancient mineral pigments. Unlike mineral powder makeup that collects in lines & pores, Vapour’s minerals are suspended in an organic base that maintains integrity of coverage and enhances natural beauty. Mineral colors offer a safer, natural alternative. Mineral pigments, such as iron oxide, come from the earth and have been used as colorants since prehistoric times. We have made a conscious choice to formulate exclusively with Certified Organic beeswax. Many people are unaware that supporting Certified Organic bee products is a responsible choice for both bees and the environment. The global bee population is suffering from the contaminating effects of pesticides from conventional farming. Supporting the use of Certified Organic beeswax helps maintain healthy environments for bees to thrive. Bees naturally produce honey and wax in excess of what they utilize. Harvesting organic beeswax as a valuable commodity helps ensure that bee populations will be protected and prosper.
Vapour Organic Beauty does not test on animals. Nor are any of the raw ingredients in Vapour tested on animals. We are a member of the Leaping Bunny Program, an internationally recognized organization that promotes a standardized “Cruelty Free” policy.
For best results store out of sunlight at a cool room temperature. Keep products from melting and freezing to ensure full shelf life. Vapour was designed to be shelf stable for a minimum of 2 years from manufacture date. We are able to achieve this conventional shelf life with Vapour primarily by not formulating with water. Water and oils together create a suitable environment for microbial growth. When water is eliminated, microorganisms that cause spoilage can not thrive and multiply in the product.
In addition, our entire formulary is designed with anti-spoilage in mind. Many primary ingredients in Vapour are not only are beneficial to the skin but have antimicrobial properties. For example, in Atmosphere and Aura you will find Frankincense & Holy Basil, which are not only skin nourishing but contain antimicrobial activity.
Synthetic oils like mineral oil, baby oil and petrolatum are derived from byproducts of crude oil production. Petrolatum seals the skin with a non-breathable barrier suffocating it and causing harmful build up of CO2 in the tissues that irritate skin over time and prematurely age skin. These are the oils that clog pores and cause pimples.
Vapour uses only organic plant oils that do not clog pores or cause break outs. Organic plant oils are compatible with our skin. They support skin health by feeding skin with vitamins, essential fatty acids and other nourishment and moisture that improves skin health with continued use. Organic oils can even balance oily skin over time.

Açai Berry (Euterpe Oleracea), Certified Organic: Extremely high in antioxidants and anthocyanins, Vitamin E, Essential Fatty Acids, Vitamin A, iron and calcium.

Beeswax (Cera Alba), Certified Organic:
Beeswax is anti-inflammatory, anti-allergenic, antioxidant, anti–bactericidal, germicidal, & skin softening. It is a natural emulsifier. It helps lock in skins own natural moisture, and creates a protective, long lasting breathable barrier against the elements. Beeswax is superior to petroleum waxes. Beeswax allows the skin to breathe while petroleum waxes strip the skin of natural moisture by blocking respiration and creating a CO2 build up in the skin causing it to become more fragile. Organic Beeswax production helps maintain the Earth’s population of healthy bee species, which are threatened by pollution. Healthy pollinating bees are vital to the survival of all species.
Borage (Borage Officinalis) Flowers, Certified Organic: Rich in Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), beta-carotene, choline, B vitamins, and trace minerals.
Calendula (Calendula Officinalis) Flowers, Certified Organic: Extracted from the marigold flower. Calendula balances the skin and reduces irritation. Very similar to aloe vera in its benefits and usefulness in the treatment of sensitive, burned or irritated skin. Excellent remedy for cuts, scrapes, bruises, and burns, as well as minor infections of the skin. Contains beta-carotene, other carotenoids, and isoquercitrin. A highly prized botanical known for its anti-inflammatory, skin soothing, and emollient benefits. Antioxidant. Reputed to bring down swelling and pain in the skin and mucous membranes. Also calms eczema and allergic reactions. The members of the Chamomile family are among the oldest remedies in existence. Cape Chamomile is known for its beautiful blue green hue and the bright sweetness of its floral scent.
Carmine: Carmine is a strikingly beautiful rich red colorant. Derived from Cochineal, this natural pigment is used in cosmetics. Historically has been used by the Navajo and other native peoples around the world.
Castor (Ricinus Communis) Seed Oil, Certified Organic: Anti-inflammatory, superior humectant & skin conditioner; creates a protective barrier against the elements. Castor Oil provides excellent stability, gloss, and pigment dispersion characteristics. Known for its use in fighting acne.
Castor Isostearate Beeswax Succinate: A castor oil and beeswax derived natural polymer that is created solely with heat and vacuum. No chemicals are used in the process. It increases wear time and enhances texture (certified by Eco-Cert).
Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum X Morifolium) flowers, Certified Organic: Chrysanthemum has been used historically in Chinese medicine for its benefits to the eyes. Chrysanthemum contains ascorbic acid, beta carotene, camphor, calcium, choline, folacin, iron, magnesium, niacin, potassium, and riboflavin. The flowers have antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antipyretic, antihypertensive and antiviral properties. The flowers also act as a detoxifying and relaxing agent.
Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) Oil, Certified Organic: deeply penetrating moisturizer and anti-oxidant. Excellent skin moisturizing delivery system; carries the benefits of other ingredients into the skin. Good for dry, itchy, sensitive skin; does not clog pores.
Elderberry (Sambucus Nigra) Fruit Extract, Certified Organic: Super-antioxidant, anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, skin conditioning. Contains bioflavonoids that help to tone & tighten the skin. Also has great natural preservative characteristics.
Evening Primrose (Oenothera Biennis) Oil, Certified Organic: made from the seeds of a wildflower that grows throughout North America, Europe and parts of Asia. The flowers open in the evening. The seeds contain oil that is one of the most concentrated sources of gamma-linoleic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid (of the omega 6 family) with anti-inflammatory properties. The health of cell membranes depends on GLA. Superior in its ability to relieve dry, scaly, or itchy skin conditions, such as rosacea, acne and dermatitis, Evening Primrose Oil is dry and light and may also help prevent clogged pores.
Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) Eyebright, Certified Organic:
Herbalists have long used eyebright in a poultice to relieve eye area redness and irritation. Contains anti-inflammatory acubin, anti-viral caffeic acid, anti-allergenic ferulic acid.
Frankincense (Boswellia Serrata), Wildcrafted: Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic. Frankincense is a sacred anointing oil used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years. High in sesquiterpenes, it is stimulating and elevating to the mind and helps in overcoming stress and depression as well as supporting the immune system. It has many skin benefits including relieving blemishes, nourishing dry and mature skin, and reducing the appearance of scars, wounds and wrinkles. Historically Frankincense has been recorded as being of equal value with myrrh and gold. Frankincense has been used as a meditation aid since it slows the pulse and deepens respiration; these qualities aid focus. The ancient Egyptians used frankincense in cosmetics.
Goji (Lycium Barbarum) Fruit Extract, Certified Organic: Goji berries originate in the mountains of Nepal. They are rich in carotenoids, and contain more beta-carotene than carrots.
Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis) Leaf, Certified Organic: Green Tea is a potent antioxidant, it is also an anti-irritant and very soothing to the skin. Green Tea is extremely rich in polyphenols, these have been repeatedly proven to provide protection against skin damage due to the sun and other causes. Polyphenols have powerful cell DNA protection properties. The polyphenols in green tea have been shown to lessen the risk of cancers and stimulate the production of several immune system cells. In addition, green tea has been shown to provide protection from bacteria and even viruses on the skin.
Grapefruit (Citrus Paradisi) Essential Oil, Certified Organic: antiseptic; bactericidal. It also works as a mild disinfectant. Grapefruit has a refreshing, uplifting aroma and is rich in the powerful antioxidant d-limonene. Aromatherapy: good for depression & nervous exhaustion; eases tension, moodiness, irritability, & frustration; refreshing, clarifying, & cleansing; purifies & lightens the spirit.
Helichrysum (Helichrysum Arenarium) Flowers, Certified Organic: Helichrysum contains high levels of antioxidants. Traditionally used as a skin healing and anti-aging agent.
Horsetail (Equisetum Arvense), Certified Organic: soothing, cooling, & astringent. Horsetail helps improve circulation; Horsetail has been used a long time in both Chinese and ancient Greek and Roman herbology to treat external wounds. Contains plentiful amounts of skin beneficial silica and potassium salts. Vapour sources its Horsetail from Hungary, as European sources of the plant contain the beneficial anti-allergy compound Quercetin. The plant is considered a living fossil. It is the only surviving genus of the entire class Equisetopsida, over one hundred million years old and a dominant feature of forests during the Paleozoic Age.
Iceland Moss (Cetraria Islandica), Certified Organic: Historically used as a medicine in its native Iceland. Iron Oxides: Natural mineral pigments used in cosmetics. These ancient colorants come from the earth. Provides a natural source of rich browns, russets, blacks, and yellows.
Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) Seed Oil, Certified Organic: a “liquid wax” that is very similar to the natural oil our skin produces. Moisturizing, healing, and beneficial for all skin types. Contains a natural source of Vitamin E. Jojoba regenerates tired skin, regulates the outer protective layer and stimulates re-growth of skin cells. Jojoba oil makes the skin soft and prolongs youthful and supple appearance. It also has skin-firming and anti- wrinkle properties.
Lecithin, Certified Organic: antioxidant, anti–inflammatory. A natural moisturizing agent, rich in vitamin F, lecithin penetrates skin easily, keeping it soft and supple. Lecithin is a natural emulsifier and super emollient; high in B vitamins.
Lemon Balm (Melissa Officinalis), Certified Organic: High in Natural phenols. Major antiseptic and antiviral benefits. Soothes and heals insect bites, stings, and other causes of skin inflammation. Clinical trials indicate that substances in melissa’s volatile oils make this herb a promising remedy for treating and preventing cold sores (herpes simplex type 1 virus).
Lemon (Citrus Limonum) Essential Oil, Certified Organic: Rich in the powerful antioxidant d-limonene. It also works as a mild disinfectant. It’s refreshing, uplifting aroma stimulates the immune system and enhances circulation.
L-lysine: A skin nourishing essential amino acid; anti-viral; effective in treating cold sores, Derived from molasses.
Lotus Flowers (Nelumbo Nucifera), Certified Organic: Antioxidant, astringent, soothing, and cooling. Lotuses have long been sacred to Buddhists, Hindus, and Egyptians. Lotus flowers are seen in these cultures as bearing prosperity and fertility, and allowing the inner being to bloom.
Mica: Natural silicate mineral approved for cosmetic use, including the eye area. Mica is iridescent and reflective, imparting a lovely shimmer to the skin.
Myrrh (Commiphora Myrrha) essential oil and resin, Wildcrafted, steam distilled: Ancient and precious, myrrh has been used for millennia for its scent. The scent has one of the highest levels of sesquiterpenes, a class of compounds that has direct effects on the hypothalamus, pituitary, and amygdala, the seat of our emotions. Myrrh is an ancient constituent of perfumes and sacred incense; it was valued as high as gold and Frankincense in ancient times. Myrrh is now recognized for its benefits to wrinkled, dry, or chapped skin. Its skin benefits also include use as a topical antiseptic for cuts, scrapes, scratches, and abrasions.
Papaya Fruit (Papain), Certified Organic: one of the best functional fruits for cosmetic use. Contains papain, a fruit enzyme that softens and improves the texture of the skin and increases cellular renewal. Papaya is a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid and caryophyllene, two phytochemicals with anti-inflammatory properties.
Pomegranate (Punica Granatum) Essence, Certified Organic: Pomegranate flavor from certified organic pomegranates.
Pomegranate (Punica Granatum) Oil, Certified Organic: cold pressed from seeds of organic Pomegranate fruit. Deeply nourishing to the outer epidermal layer, luxurious, naturally high in flavonoids and punicic acid (a conjugated linolenic acid). Pomegranate is rich in anthocyanins, a group of polyphenols known for their powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Pomegranate anthocyanins were shown in a comparative analysis to possess higher antioxidant activity than vitamin E ({alpha}-tocopherol), ascorbic acid, and ß-carotene. Exciting research has shown that topical treatment with pomegranate polyphenols is likely to prevent the molecular signs of UV photo-damage, connected to skin cancer. Pomegranate is being extensively researched as a tumor inhibitor.

Safflower (Carthamus Tinctorius) Seed Oil: high in fatty acids. Ideal for use in cosmetics and used as a base oil for plant extracts. Safflower is very similar to olive oil with high levels of linoleic or oleic acid. Skin hydrating. Relieves dry skin and eczema. Dry and light so it absorbs quickly.
Silica: a naturally occurring common mineral vital to human cellular health. Silica nourishes the skin and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Silica is required for the proper functioning of the enzyme prolyhydroxylase. This enzyme is vital in the formation of collagen in skin, connective tissue, bone, and cartilage. Silica aids in healthy skin, hair, and nails. Silica is beneficial to acne prone skin.
Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii) Fruit, Certified Organic: Antioxidant, moisturizing; healing to wounds and burns; emollient, soothing. Treats dry skin, blemishes, skin discoloration, scars and wrinkles, acts as a natural sun screen and helps the skin retain elasticity.
Stevia (Stevia Rebaudiana) Extract: bactericidal, antibacterial. Hydrating. Used as an herbal cold-sore remedy. The leaves have a delicious and refreshing taste that can be 30 times sweeter than sugar yet do not promote tooth decay or affect blood sugar. The leaf also contains proteins, high levels of chromium, iron, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, zinc, rutin (a flavonoid), true vitamin A, and Vitamin C.
Sunflower (Helianthus Annuus) Oil, Certified Organic: A highly skin beneficial light dry oil which is high in linoleic acid, Vitamins A, B complex, D, and E, as well as calcium, zinc, potassium, iron, and phosphorus.
Sweet Orange (Citrus Sinensis) Essential Oil, Certified Organic: Antioxidant, uplifting to mind and body.
Titanium Dioxide (TiO2): A naturally occurring mineral pigment. Vapour uses a cosmetic grade Tio2 that is non-nano particle and not a sunscreen. TiO2 gives body, texture and color to the product.
Tulsi/Holy Basil (Ocimum Sanctum) Certified Organic: Highly antioxidant. An ancient Ayurvedic whole body tonic that helps the body rid itself of environmental, physical, or chemical stress. Restores, balances, normalizes body functions. Currently being researched for its extensive beneficial properties, Tulsi has already been found to be effective for psoriasis, eczema, environmental stress, wound healing, inflammation, and other skin conditions. Tulsi is sacred in the Hindu tradition.
Vitamin E (Tocopherol ): Vitamin E is a major antioxidant nutrient that retards cellular aging due to oxidative stress. It repairs & prevents damage to the skin. It is excellent for cuts & scars. Vitamin E is one of nature’s most dynamic moisturizers. Aids cellular renewal and healing, improves skin elasticity, firmness and tone. Vitamin E also has natural preservative benefits. Most cosmetics contain a lower grade of synthetic E, Vapour has sourced a high-grade E made from a vegetable source.
What is NOT in Vapour? Vapour products have been designed differently from any conventional cosmetics line. We have a set of guidelines that we adhere to from product design to manufacturing. What we put on our skin gets into our blood stream. It is vital that we are educated consumers and that we consciously reduce the toxic load on our bodies and on the water table.
We assure you that Vapour contains:
NO bismuth oxychloride – a known eye irritant that is a commonly used adhesive in eye shadow. It irritates the delicate skin around the eyes causing it to prematurely age.
NO irradiated pigments – many cosmetic mineral pigments have been treated with radiation as a safeguard against bacteria. Vapour has gone to great expense to source pure mineral pigments that have been heat treated as an anti-bacterial measure, and NOT irradiated.
NO GMO ingredients – all of Vapour’s plant based ingredients have been vetted as natural non genetically modified and are almost always certified organic or wildcrafted.
NO gluten – gluten allergies and celiac disease are on the rise and Vapour is dedicated to keeping our products gluten free. It is especially important that lip sticks, lip glosses, and lip balms be gluten free since these products may be ingested. EXCEPTION:Our Eyeliner is the exception; it contains wheat protein.
NO nano-particles – Vapour feels there is insufficient safety knowledge about nano particles in cosmetics. The fear is that these tiny particles will cross the blood-brain and/or placental barrier. Also there are environmental implications since nano particles enter the water table from personal care products getting washed off. Vapour has proactively vetted every single ingredient we use to verify that none contain nano-particles.
NO phthalates or bispehnol A – Phthalates and Bisphenol A are endocrine disruptors. They mimic the body's hormones and laboratory tests have shown them to cause reproductive and neurological damage. (California banned the use of phthalates in toys and baby products as of 2009.)
NO synthetic fragrance – synthetic or artificial fragrance may contain phthalates. Vapour product scents comes from steam distilled pure essential oils or natural fruit extracts.
NO petrochemicals/petroleum products – in addition to the environmental and cultural/economic issues raised by the indiscriminate use of petroleum products they are simply hazardous to your skin. Petrolatum irritates the skin over time and causes it to become more fragile and dry. Petrolatum seals the skin with a non-breathable barrier suffocating it and causing harmful build up of Co2 in the tissues.
NO eythyl, methyl, propyl or butyl parabens – According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in their report "Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products in the Environment: Agents of Subtle Change?" parabens—methyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl (alkyl-p-hydroxybenzoates)—showed estrogenic activity in several tests. Like phthalates, these chemicals mimic human hormones and can disrupt the endocrine system, the pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands as well as the hypothalamus, and ovaries. Parabens are also dangerous on an environmental level. The EPA reported that "continual introduction of these benzoates (parabens) into sewage treatment systems and directly to recreational waters from the skin leads to the question of risk to aquatic organisms." Again, much of what we use on our skin get absorbed into our bloodstream, and the residue washes away and into the water table.
NO artificial colors, FD&C colors, Lakes, or dyes – many of these synthetics pigments are made from coal tar, a known carcinogen.
NO Hydroquinone – a skin lightening substance banned in the EU since 2001 as a potential carcinogen and for its liver toxicity.
NO talc – talc is closely related to asbestos and is a known carcinogen. Talc is implicated in ovarian and lung cancers.
NO formaldehyde –Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and is irritating to the eyes, nose and throat (mucous membranes).

NO Dimethicone or Cyclomethicone: Silicone emollients are occlusive. That means they coat the skin, create an oxidative barrier that trapps anything beneath it. These compounds do not allow the skin to breathe; they are much like a plastic wrap suffocating the skin. These cause skin irritation.
